[Flash 10 is required to watch video]
It’s hard to tell what’s going on this video or realize how unbelievably mind blowing this is. This is multi-sensory television. You put on the glasses to see an object (in this case, a balloon) in 3D, the earphones to hear it, your hands hold a stylus that feels its elasticity, and you can smell the latex. If you press the stylus too hard, the virtual balloon pops. Mind you, there is nothing beyond the screen, just your hand and a metal stick.
This same company, NICT, invented a 200 inch 3D tv that does not require glasses. These were the two coolest things I saw at the mega nerd convention of NAB.
Ok. I think this is where we should stop. I’m good here.

Walking the NAB floor, I’m amazed at how many of the technologies from great wonderful science fiction films have come to reality. Then I walk outside into Vegas and see a very striking resemblance to the dystopian reality from the great dark science fiction films.

Vivek Haldar: The components of a university
In about five years, if not sooner, the entire education complex is going to face the same existential crisis that journalism and newspapers are going through right now. Their product will be unbundled from the unified package in which it is conventionally sold, and will be served a-la-carte and…
Extraordinarily good breakdown of the next shift: higher education.

This manifesto for visual culture from Rencontres d’Arles is a fine addition to these 5 manifestos for the creative life.

Penny-Farthing. Sounds like it means. Rides like a bike from the turn of the century. The century without iPods. And cars.

But there is something kinda sad about Kodak going bankrupt on one hand and on the other an app that runs your cell phone photos through a series of filters to allegedly improve them getting bought for a billion dollars.
